Dear Mr. Hunter,
I am sending this letter to you following a 'phone
conversation with Mr. Horne.
Colonel R.F. Drury C.B.E. the Chief Superintendent
of our Mapping Branch who joined the Department on 1 September
1900, is due to retire on the 5th August next when he reaches
age 65.
Prior to joining the Land Registry Colonel Drury was
employed in the permanent service of the Colony of Hong Kong.
Colonel Drury has asked me if I can give him an
indication of what his pension will amount to.
I can tell him the amount (approximately) of his
pension so far as his service here is concerned. For the
rest, of course, I know nothing.
Bennett (Superannuation Division, Treasury) tells me
that when the application goes in, the Treasury will make
an Award for Imperial service and communicate with the Colonial
Office as to the pension (if any) in respect of colonial service.
As I understand that there may be some delay in
dealing with the question of the Colonial service pension I
wonder if you would be good enough to set the ball rolling in
anticipation of the official request, in an endeavour to
ascertain what award is likely to be made.
According to the information which we have, it would
appear that Colonel Drury's colonial service was as follows:
